About
Jay (J-Danté) Green was born in Houston, Texas and from a young age he was captivated by the rich variety of music in his hometown.
J-Danté’s journey to stardom began early, influenced by his friends Cedrick ‘Swab’ Cotton and Maverick ‘Mav’ Cotton, and cousin Wayne ‘PZ’ Perry. Together they formed the R&B group Ideal, and were discovered singing beautiful harmonies on a local radio station. Ideal was signed by Virgin Records and went on to tour with Destiny’s Child, TLC, Earth, Wind & Fire, and many more R&B acts across the United States and the UK.
Ideal’s self-titled album was released in 1999, and achieved Gold Record status, featuring the Billboard Hot 100 hits like ‘Creep Inn’ and ‘Whatever’ featuring Lil Mo. Their biggest hit ‘Get Gone’ dominated the charts for over two years.
Tragically, in 2021, the group was shaken by the murder of Cedrick Cotton in broad daylight outside a food market in Southwest Houston, leading to a period of reflection and healing.
The loss inspired J-Danté to take a leap of faith and embark on a solo career, channelling his creativity and inspiration into new music.
His debut single ‘Spicy Margarita’ is a vibrant fusion of pop and contemporary R&B, offering a refreshing taste of what’s to come from J-Danté.
